Rib Cartilage Rhinoplasty in Seoul, Korea, Built to Last

———— ✦ ————

Before reshaping a nose, build the structure that holds it. BYUS uses your own rib cartilage to reinforce the tip and dorsum for a stable, natural shape without artificial implants.

The Surgery

Structure Before Shape

———— ✦ ————

In autologous rib cartilage rhinoplasty, cartilage taken through a small incision below the chest is carved to support the nasal tip and septum, reinforcing or extending the nose's framework.

It is especially considered when the nose has contracted, after previous surgery, or after implant-related inflammation. Only the needed amount is harvested, and the donor site is closed with a triple-layer suture.

Because the cartilage is your own, the risk of inflammation and exposure is relatively low compared with artificial materials.

Why Rib Cartilage

A Stronger Foundation

———— ✦ ————

Your Own Tissue

Autologous cartilage carries relatively low inflammation and exposure risk.

Abundant and Strong

Rib cartilage is more plentiful and stronger than septal or ear cartilage.

Versatile

It can be shaped for several uses, including as a strut for short or contracted noses.

Minimal Harvest

Only what's needed is taken, with careful incision placement and layered closure.

Who It Suits

When Rib Cartilage Is Considered

———— ✦ ————

  • A nose that became short or upturned after previous surgery
  • A tip pulled up rigidly by contracture
  • Weak tip cartilage
  • Revision after implant-related inflammation
  • Nasal cartilage already used in earlier surgery
  • A crooked nose needing structural correction
  • You want a higher tip with stable support

Choosing Your Approach

Rib Cartilage or Natural Line Rhinoplasty?

———— ✦ ————

Rib cartilage rhinoplasty is suited to insufficient tip support, contracture or revision cases. If your nasal structure is relatively intact and you mainly want line refinement, BYUS Natural Line Rhinoplasty may be more appropriate. Prior surgeries are reviewed in detail before any recommendation.

The Process

Four Stages of Surgery

———— ✦ ————

  • Structural analysis and design of tip support, contracture and septum
  • Rib cartilage harvest through a small incision below the chest
  • Structural reinforcement and shaping
  • Line and symmetry check; the nose and donor site are closed separately

Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

———— ✦ ————

  • Why use rib cartilage instead of an implant?

Rib cartilage is your own tissue, so inflammation and exposure risk is relatively low. It is also strong enough to support the tip and septum in noses that need structural reinforcement.

  • Will there be a scar on my chest?

Cartilage is taken through a small incision below the chest, and the site is closed with a triple-layer suture. Donor-site scarring varies by individual.

  • How long should I stay in Seoul?

Stitches are removed about 5–7 days after surgery, and recovery takes about 2–3 weeks. Many international patients plan a longer stay for this procedure; discuss your dates with us in consultation.

  • Can rib cartilage fix a nose damaged by a previous surgery?

It is often considered for contracture, a short or upturned nose, or revision after implant problems. BYUS reviews your previous surgery records in detail before recommending a plan.

  • Can the cartilage warp over time?

Cartilage deformation is a possible risk that varies by individual. Your doctor will explain how this is considered in your surgical plan.

  • What should I bring to my consultation?

If you've had nasal surgery before, bring any records you have along with photos. These help the doctor understand your current structure.
